Guide To Using Our Basketball Playbook
The basketball plays section of Coach A Winning Team is a great resource to learn new plays. I wanted to write a quick guide to help you use the basketball plays with your own teams. I'll start by telling you about the free flash plugin you'll need to view the plays, about 98% of internet users already have the plug-in installed. Next I'll try to give some tips and tactics you can use to help implement the plays into your team's playbook.
To view our animated basketball plays you'll need the Flash Plug-in. As mentioned above most people already have this free plugin installed. If you're not sure you can simply try viewing one of the animated plays. If the plays won't work on your browser you can download the Adobe Flash Plug-in from here. It's a simple install and comes from a very trusted company in Adobe, the makers of the popular Photoshop programs.
It's neat to watch the plays move across your computer screen but the true purpose of the plays is to help you learn the patterns. I've tried to provide enough information in the breakdown section of the plays to give you a solid understanding of each play. I've also drawn lines to show the players movements. You'll notice the plays stop frequently, when the play stops new text will appear in the breakdown section describing the next step of the play. You can use the lines and the instructions in the breakdown section to draw the plays out on court diagram sheet.
I'll be posting some printable court diagrams soon for those of you who may not have them. I'm sure you can find them with a Google search or you can draw them with pen and paper. To learn the plays you should watch them with a court diagram in hand so you can sketch out the patterns. You can make notes from the instructions in the breakdown section and copy the lines I've drawn throughout the plays. I know some of this may seem obvious to most of you but we have many first time coaches who may not know where to start in terms of learning a new offense by breaking down the various steps of a play.
